Using Local Newspapers Online

Waterford Co. Library hosts a digital newspaper archive of c.140,000 local newspaper pages. For local newspapers other that than the Dungarvan Leader and Dungarvan Observer, select the year required from the page listing for each newspaper and browse the files which are presented chronologically. Included in the database are pages from the:

• Waterford Chronicle
• Waterford Mirror
• Waterford Mail
• News and Star
• Munster Express

Each page is held as a .tiff image and can be downloaded onto the users desktop where it can be viewed using any one of a large number of image viewers including Adobe Acrobat.

The Ask About Ireland Irish Times Digital Archive provides online access to The Irish Times from the first edition in 1859 to the present, and is fully indexed and searchable.

This service is free of charge for internet users within public libraries. Use the link provided from any public access terminal in the Branch Library network to access the archive.
