Journey into the past in your local branch Library. You can access the comprehensive archive of OSI Historical Maps from theHistoric Mapping Archive period of 1837-1913. This is an invaluable service for researchers, genealogists, local historians and the general public.

Features hundreds of maps including:

  • 6 inch mapping series (1:10,560) colour 1837-1842
  • 6 inch mapping series (1:10,560) greyscale 1837-1842
  • 25 inch mapping series (1:2,500) greyscale 1887-1913.

The main feature is an easy to use browser that searches by townsland, civil parish incorporating pan and zoom facilities.

This service is FREE at your local library. Printouts cost 15c each for black and white, €1.00 each for colour. To avail of the service, contact your local library to reserve an Internet session. Griffith's Valuation Maps Online

The Townland Index is the main starting point for research. This index gives in alphabetical order the name of every townland in Griffith's Map (tn)County Waterford and the corresponding Sheet Numbers on which each townland can be found. This can be downloaded here:

Sheet numbers can be used to locate digitised Griffith's Valuation maps by following the search sequence below:

  • Locate sheet number(s) for your townland the townland index.
  • Open library catalogue and search the 'contents' index
  • Search by sheet number. For example, locate Abbeyside map by inputting: 'Griffith's Valuation Sheet 31'. Use this format for all searches. 

Dungarvan Town Maps

In January 1901, the first in a series of detailed maps of Dungarvan Town were produced as part of a drainage scheme for Dungarvan.These maps can be viewed online courtesy of the Archives Section and constitute a great resource for Dungarvan, showing many of the landmarks and urban features of the time. They are useful for:

  • Comparative historical analysis with Ordnance Survey Maps of the 1840s and 1870s.
  • Viewing details of buildings, amenities and services in Dungarvan.
