Historic Maps

Maps held by the Local Studies section are all of a historic nature. They are held in three formats: microfilm, hardcopy and digitised maps which can now be viewed online.

The Townland Index is the main staring point for most research. This alphabet index lists the name of every townland in County Waterford and the corresponding Sheet Numbers identifying the maps on which each townland can be found. This can be downloaded here:

Sheet numbers can be used to locate maps in several formats:

  • Numbers correspond with hardcopy maps held at Dungarvan Central Library.
  • Digitised Griffith's Maps can be located and downloaded by completing the search sequence below:
    - Step 1: Locate sheet number(s) for your townland using the townland index.
    - Step 2: Open library catalogue and search the 'contents' index.
    - Step 3: Search by sheet number. To download Abbeyside maps, for example, type: 'Griffith's Valuation Sheet 31'. Use this format for all searches.
